Armed with a camera and a deep love for South Africa, Holger began documenting stories through his LOCAL IS LEKKER! video series. What started as a post-pandemic passion project quickly turned into something bigger: a movement to highlight and support small-town breweries and the people behind them.

As Holger shared in his Beer Troopy blog, the COVID-19 lockdowns offered a strange kind of stillness. But rather than staying still, he chose connection. He packed his gear and hit the road, documenting the back roads and breweries scattered across South Africa — each with a unique tale, each worth telling.
From the Cape’s crisp lagers to the Midlands’ malty ambers, Holger’s journey uncovered not just good beer, but the heart of local business.
